field report from Homer
Homer called me from the Minneapolis airport en route to his hometown and reported that he went to the MPLS airport A&W to sample some of the local cuisine, batterfried cheese curds:
Next time you go through there, it's the only A&W Root Beer store in the food court, and it looks like this:
Another interesting cultural trait of the Midwest is that anglo Caucasians perform manual labor in middle America. Looking back at those pictures I took a few years ago made me hungry for cheese curds and Caucasian manual laborers. I'm looking forward to going back home this summer.

I discovered an A&W stand in Springfield Mall that sells cheese curds. Its not in the food court, but hidden away in a inconspicuous corner on the second level. Speaking of cheese curds, you ever have poutine?

I just went to the Mars Cheese Castle in Kenosha, and Laack's cheese curds are the best I have ever had. I also had some squeaky ones and those were nasty. I prefer a curd that doesn't squeak.

I live with a Wisconsin boy too...all about the curds. I don't get it. Got too much Georgia running through my veins I guess. Gimme boiled peanuts! ;-)

precisely why i see people visiting places that are part of a cruise, yet, can't see potential beyond -- nor achieve it -- due to such cheesy and fried homogenized cooking practices being passed on as exemplary or stellar samplings when all of it is so agro. just as cia has been mentioned ad nauseum, yet, rhinebeck remains foreign territory -- just as san carlos has been pointed out, however, do they actually realize how myopic it is when -- for some -- it seems oh so exotic?? black's beach must be cutting edge to some. when you grow up with that -- it's just the shore of a vast and deep ocean.

That seems to be a common occurance here too.
Jimbo, when in Oregon next, you need to visit Tillamook and go to the Cheese factory for a tour - free cheese curds! Plus its on the coast, so beautiful scenery.
