Linda, stop being such a betch about my rent

Dear Linda at T_____-B_________ Property Management:

I've always paid my rent on time, if not early, and have been only a week late this time. I wanted to make sure the check I gave you doesn't bounce, as paychecks only came in yesterday.

I gave you my check in person this morning. So you don't need to sic your attorneys on me, especially when I am most certainly not some kind of no-good, low-down deadbeat renter. And you certainly don't need to threaten me in that tone. Sugar works a lot better than salt with me.

I am a model renter. I take care of the garden in front and in back, I take out my trash and sweep my sidewalk and I even champion the cause of tidy neighborhood - with results. I am involved with community improvement efforts even though I don't own the property in which I'm living. As a renter I don't have to do any of these things, but I do, because it is my home even though I do not own it.

You people, however, have left me high and dry when my A/C blows out, send incompetents to come fix the issue, and now you're getting on my case for being a week late? What will eventually happen if you continue to be a bitch is that I will leave, and then you're gonna get some low-down deadbeat meth-smoking renter who will set the house on fire or something like that. Is that what you want? When something is good, keep going with it, and don't invite trouble.

So back off, be nice and give me a break this time. It's been a rough couple of months. I understand that it's your job to be a bitch but there are better ways of going about being a bitch, and certainly better targets for your ire. Just ask me (a bitch) on how to go through with being a bitch in a nicer way.

Kisses,
Jimbo

I had a similar situation when I was in grad school - no one at the realty company ever thanked me for being early or on time with the rent. when i was late by 1 day, i got a 50 buck fine. shocking how good behavior is never considered by the cold hard capitalists - all they want is the bucks!

You need to find out who the actual owner of your property is (title search?) and let them know about this.

Many property firms have automatic collection/escalation systems which kick in - and probably your check wasn't "entered" in their system in time to stop the automatic spit out. That said, no one wants to lose a good tenant. Of course this is null if they own and manage ... There are some truly petty people in residential property management.

I am on good relations with the property owner proper. He has on many occasions complimented me on my tidiness, and I think he likes me as a tenant and says I'm waaay better than the previous one. I gave him a call to tell Linda to stop being such a bitch.

They do the management for my building too, though my apt is owned and managed by another company, TG. They aren't as spiteful with us, but they are slow. My rent check is always within the 5 day window, and even when I've handed it in early, they never cash it before the fifth.

My credit card company managed to cash my check laste three times last year, always adding a $39 fee. I'm convinced they do it on purpose to make extra money. Now I pay at the local supermarket bank :(

I hear you. I had a car loan with Bank of Southern MD once. After 4.5 years of perfect payments (on a five year loan) I fell a little bit behind when I was out of work. A little bit behind was less than 30 days behind BTW. They went nuts on me. When I had two payments left to go, I actually went 31 days past due, and they sent me legal notices via registered mail about making plans to reposess my car. Geeeez I was glad to pay that loan off.

Sweet bitches give you a grace period which may be extended for model renter bitches. Give her a lesson Jimbo!

You did right by telling owner about LindaBitch. Would it be possible to tell a superior of hers as well?

Yes they do it on purpose. I pay my bills electronically, and even though the bank sends the money to Mastercard via bits and bytes it takes 3-5 days for it to show up. So I pay days, weeks ahead of the due date. They are trying to get me to pay late so they can wack up my rates. I have heard that credit card companies make most of their money through fees and not honest to goodness interest.
