the nightmares will continue until the deadline is met
Day three of horrid nightmares that have been happening around 2 or 3am every night this week. They're of the disturbing kind where you have to fully awaken to purge them completely from your mind, or else you just go back to sleep and they continue. I know why I'm having them - although my final paper and exam are done with little stress, I still have this newsletter/annual report due NOW at work and it's clearly stressing me out, which is expressed in my nightmares. Here's a running account of each evening's horrid scenarios:
In each case I wake up panting when the assorted creatures begin feeding on me.
This is what happens when you are a former biology major and also play Dungeons and Dragons into your 30's. It's just a bad combo for a wild imagination and subconcious.

Sounds like you need to get some bed sheets with a +5 nightmare resistance or at least a stocking cap with an invulnerability to psionic blasts. I had a horrific dream last night as well. I was going to the movies and for some reason was brining my stuffed platypus I sleep with along too. I accidentally left him in the taxi! It was terrible! I was running up and down streets looking for cabs that might have my platypus...Not quite a bad as camel spiders though or collecting guppies.

Back in college, during finals week, I had similar nightmares. I can't remember much after all this time, but one image is still seared into my head: detached eyeballs sizzling (and exploding) in a frying pan.
Discuss.

Either all those frightening scary creatures movies are catching up on you, or you read the artcile about the Tiger mosquito becoming permanently estblished in urban environments, especially DC.
Perhaps you need a big stuffed toy to curl up with?

Maybe it's time to put down the d20 and walk away. At least until the nightmares subside. And perhaps lay off the fantasy/sci-fi novels. On the bright side, at least it's not the same horrible recurring nightmare every single time.

At least your stress nightmares are interesting. I'm still having the one where it's suddenly the end of the semester and I realize I registered for a class that I never attended but now must sit for the exam. Sometimes, missed quizzes during the semester factor into the dream. Although of late, that dream is morphing into the one where I have suddenly quit my current job (which I love) and have returned to my old law firm position (which I didn't love) only to discover that none of the cases I transferred were ever resolved and defaults have been entered.
