please, make it stop

I didn't see Crash, don't know what it's about, but did see that one other film that everyone is talking about an awful lot. Like I said before, I thought that one film was a good film, but it didn't knock my socks off or devastate me to the core of my being as several have said. I have taken some flack for not following the chorus in an unquestioning adoration for the film.

There were many good movies in contention for the Best Film award this year. Did you know there were good films out there that are not gay-related? It cannot be assumed that America or the Academy is homophobic just because the collective expectations of a very exciteable gay community were not met. I'm sorry so many of us were wagering all our hopes and dreams on the recognition of this film and the total sweep of this year's Academy Awards show. But maybe, just maybe, that one film wasn't the best film of 2005. Let's step back a bit, take a deep breath, and get some perspective. Besides, recognition of three awards ain't bad...best director, adapted screenplay and original score is hardly qualifies as a 'snub' or a 'bust'.

Well, is it any wonder that Crash won really? Everyone in freakin' Hollywood was in the movie. It's a numbers game.

Oh, if you ever question the reality of a woman flipping her car on what appears to be a flat street, I can't explain the physics of it, but I can testify to the ability of LA drivers to do some pretty bizarre, physics-defying things with their cars. How else do you explain a Mercedes E Class sedan perched upside on the hood of an SUV at the intersection of Sunset and Beverly?

The Academy Awards really depends on what happens to have been released that year. What if Lord of the Rings (2004) had to battle Gladiator (2001) or that greater evil Titanic (1998)? Who'd win?

The thing I'm dreading is the conservative pundits yapping about Brokeback not winning and that somehow that is proof of something or other.

What's the oscars? Why should I care?

You should go see CRASH, it may not be the best movie in the universe but it is a good movie and it is not politically correct, nor is it pretty glossed for the masses.
Sandra Bullock described it as "The shit no one wants to talk about but yet we all know everyone thinks it"

It was not over hyped, nor was it heavly promoted.

For those of us who appreciated that film for what it is and what it isn't, we also know the valuable alternative to what you suggest here is that a good film is not always embraced by "the Academy" and it does not need to be.
By the way, your new pic is hot.

Look at who came down from the mount in the "Ten Commandments" back in the day; Moses is now the president of the freakin NRA.....there's some old fodgers walking around in the hills who still vote for best picture.

Well, I'm glad someone else feels that way Jimbo. I was sick of people talking about it last month.

I'm personally not upset that the "gay" movie didn't win. I honestly thought Crash was the better movie. It's just that for those of us that follow the movie award season, every leading indicator pointed to a Brokeback Mountain win (Golden Globe win, Director's Guild, Producer's Guild and Writer's Guild wins as well as being named best picture by practically every critics association out there - although the Screen Actor's Guild managed to pick Crash over Brokeback). So I have to wonder why it didn't. Do I think it's homophobia? No - probably not. I honestly think it's the inevitable backlash that can happen to a movie that's been heaped with accolades. Basically I think the Academy voters were sick of seeing Brokeback win everything so they voted for something else. That's the snub.

yeah, the Oscars are sooo over, but I just have to say... Crash, while a fairly decent film, was NOT the better movie. It was a superficial swipe at addressing racisim in this country, too obviously made by white people for white people. Crash won't be remembered a month from now, but people will be talking about Brokeback for awhile.

Brokeback was superior in storytelling, cinematography, and acting. By rights it should have won best picture...

But then, it is just a movie. What do movies have to do with anyone's real life? Maybe not much, but there is power in storytelling. I mean, look at all the conversation that's been stirred up by this one film.
