eat lola eat

I know many human lives were lost or ruined due to Katrina, but like many people I also found myself worrying about the dogs, cats and other animals left behind in New Orleans. I never thought about the animals until I read Sturtle, but I'm happy to read that Lola is now O.K. and with her family. I can't find the excellent set of photos documenting the animal rescue in last week's Washington Post, but this week's coverage continues.

In other pet news, I'm in the process of moving my guppy population from my outdoor pond back inside for the winter. It seems they have been busy over the summer being, well, guppies. Anyone need a few dozen young gaily-colored livebearers?

An even larger crisis looms on the horizon: which coffee table should I get from IKEA: Leksvik or Bankesta? I'm leaning towards Leksvik, mostly due to the fact that it matches the rest of my furniture. But I love the storage space that Bankesta offers.

I was very relieved that Ms. Lola was rescued, I laid awake one night worrying about that cat. I like the Leksvik table much better- the Bankesta looks very college-studentish.

The Bankesta -- less visible surface area to dust.

As for the coffee table, it seems they both allow for storage. It is just that oned puts the stuff on display and the other hides it away.

So if you want a place to stash tons of stuff without caring how it looks, then chose Bankesta.

If you are planning for the slightly longer term and want to consider how it will look in a house (and I had Ikea furniture for 15 years -- not that it was planned) then buy the Leksvik.

The leksvik table does seem to have style advantages over bankesta. Bankesta looks like it would be perfect with a cushion as table seating.

The bankesta looks like it might be a simpler assembly than the leksvik. 30 minutes tops!

I agree with Homer the Bankesta looks college studentish.

If you're looking for unlimited free checking in Tallinn, go with Bankesta.

The first one is definitely better looking. You could also look at Home Decorators Collection (homedecorators.com) - I got one of their catalogs in the mail and while some of their stuff is eh a lot of it looks pretty decent and the prices seem pretty reasonable. I've never ordered from them but for what it is worth I liked the Mission style coffee table with or without drawers, basic, functional and hardwood, price seemed ok too.

I have absolutely no design taste - but the leksvik looks good to me

Animal Planet already has a show on the huge pet rescue going on, I think Animal Precinct, and they have been rerunning it.
I agree with the dust factor, and you could always cover the containers with something or paint them another color to make them less dorm-looking,

I think the Bankesta makes the perfect quick bed/table for most large hostels or shelters. Cushion on top (with a non-slip rubber mat underneath), clothes/personal belongings underneath in one container and personal food stuffs in the other. Very efficient.

On the other hand, the Leksvik doesn't look nearly as institutional-friendly, and looks more like just a regular old fancy-schmancy-nancy coffee table.

I would go with the Leksvik, it has a classic look that can go with just about anything.

The Bankesta has the typical IKEA look that I dont think you want to have.
