red blog, blue blog

#1 reason Conservative and Republican (gay or any) blogs and websites suck:

They over-utilize the color red in their designs.

Red hurts and distracts the eyes, and is to be avoided for online media. Now I understand your reasoning due to the whole Red/Blue state partisanship and its symbolism, but it's a design no-no. Blue just happens to be more pleasing to the eye, no political bias intended. In general, 'hot' colors like orange, yellow, and red should be used sparingly. Cooler colors such as light purple, blue and greens are better for large areas of space without text.

I'd love to read your blog more often, but it's orangeness hurts the eyes of the elderly.

Admittedly my Kylie scheme, while a cool lavendar, bugged me. Her boobs distracted from the content. FYI: rumours about her Diva behavior and pink color scheme while in the hospital were highly overblown.

While I'm at it, grampaw jimbo also has a hard time reading light text on black backgrounds. I've already e-mailed him about this. Yeah, I see you can change the color scheme too.

It's called Cardinal and Gold and has nothing to do with the Red State/Blue State thing.

Cardinal and Gold is great for a team branding, but bad for media. My hometown colors are Maroon and Gold.

Does your team have a more muted, or cooler color scheme? Or perhaps just have the active hover link as yellow, and hit links as red? Cardinal and Gold are warm colors.

Well, I could go with the away uniform color scheme... White with Cardinal with some gold highlights...

Kylie's boobs are lovely, but it's her bum that stops the traffic. Fantastic.

Ahhh, reminded me vaguely of one of my favourite lines from Family Guy - Peter Griffin (Dad), riding a circus elephant:

"Look Lois, the two symbols of the Republican Party: an elephant, and a fat white guy who's threatened by change"

The worst are the websites with the alternating red/blue pattern. The eye has to focus slightly differently on red and blue. It has to do with the wavelength of the color and index of refraction. Some crap like that. Putting them together is very distracting because the eye has to work hard to resove the image clearly.

Does anyone see a problem with this concept and, oh I don't know, every political website in america? You always wondered why Fox News was so hard to watch. You thought it was just the content. You were mostly right. It's literally hard to look at. Designed to be that way.
