What's bizarre is that I distinctly remember checking out that book in middle school, and loved the book a lot. I think the original title was "Revenge of the Rainbow Dragons" or something like that. The book clearly turned me into a gay Dungeons and Dragons player.

While I was never a big sci-fi fan, most of my after-school hours were spent reading (and re-reading) Encylopedia Brown books. At that age, I was amazed that I missed so many clues in the stories. Today, I'd probably wince at how obvious the problem solving had actually been.
