that's so 2004

I'll be going to see Scissor Sisters in concert tomorrow night at the 930 club. But now that SS is tres gauche and SO 2004, I will be going alone as anyone who is hip obviously will not be in attendance. Everyone who is anyone saw them last year when I thought Scissor Sisters was a company that got bought out by Fiskars®. There will only be 24 year-old squealing straight female Hill interns present, smoking and drinking furiously, brought there by their gay boyfriends of the same age. None of the late 20something gay hipsters will be there, no one with intricately sculpted facial hair or dyed hair at all. I am so unhip and behind the times I might as well go on down to Buffalo Billiards or Sesto Senso, pick up a drunk chick named Jennifer and get married, and sign up for the RNC.

Bitch, please. I'm going to relive last year. It's instant nostalgia!

you think that's unhip? this guy i'm dating is going with the other guy he's dating, who beat me to the punch in asking him to go. so now i can't even go and be unhip unless i want to bump into them being all goo-goo with each other.

Chris: I thought you said you weren't going, as you looked down upon me from your Mr. Smarty Pants Hipster Glasses, adjusting your irony tee-shirt?

Bear: just wallow in the fact that they are not going to a hip concert. SS is totally OVER!

Darlings, I just heard of Scissor Sisters three days ago. I had heard the song but did not know who they were. I didn't even know any of them were queer. The only hip I know is my aching one.

Scissor Sisters is going to be fun, fun, fun. Enjoy.

I was told that if your over 30 being "unhip" is refered to as "set in one's ways"

I never heard of Scissor Sisters until a couple of months ago. But then again I rarely stray off my music path. (How long have they been around?)

I have only heard two songs, very up-beat, very 80s sounding.

You are hip in the most honest way possible. I'm a 25-year-old gay "man" who likes music the same way that Chromewaves guy does, and there's nothing more credible and honest and hip than telling people, "The last two concerts I saw were the Scissor Sisters and Olivia Newton-John." That should shut those music snobs up! Music rules, elitism doesn't!

Tuts - going to concerts is so 20th century.

Been there, schmoozed with them in London bear clubs, had them buy me drinks, ogled Babydaddy's humpadelic musclebear bf.

*kicks self very hard for being a conceited ass*

I didn't use to be like this, it's the London talking - honest. You have a ball, lil woofster.

;-)

Jimbo-
I am so jealous that you are going to see Scissor Sisters tomorrow. I am a gay man who has loved the group for awhile but has yet to see them perform live. I am trying to get a ticket for the show so I may see you there. Keep a space open in the unhip section for me!

jimbo: i think i'll wallow in the fact that they're not going to a hip concert and that they're going together while i'm wallowing. i suppose franz ferdinand is unhip now too? i'm so behind the times. i hear there's this new thing called blowoff? maybe i should try that sometime this decade. :)

Posted by: some bear at January 11, 2005 3:06 PM

Sorry, I said the f-bomb in my post. I see I was edited, spank. Anyway nice to see you on Saturday at the Blowoff gig. Stop at DC-9 first for pre-drinks and oggle the hot bartender there.

The only thing that isn't already over is something you've yet to hear about.

Have a fan-friggin’-tastic great time tomorrow night at the concert ! Scissor Sisters thoroughly rocked me last November and am completely jealous the number of times they’ve played DC. Wish I could be there !

My first impulse was to reassure Jimbo that no, he's not behind the times and square! But then I re-read his post and realized every word he wrote is completely on the money. Except the marring a GOP Jennifer - that's just sick.

I have had the supreme pleasure of seeing SS twice here in San Francisco, in quite small venues without seating. The last time I was right against the stage and close enough to count the hairs on Babydaddy's chest and lick Ana Matronic's very shiny boots! They are the most fun live music experience I've ever had, by miles. You're going to have a blast Jimbo.

I'm going. I gotta say, it might even be more fun without the Kool Kids there, you know, so my kool aura can shine above the crowd and attract all of aforementioned gay boyfriends of Hill interns.

If their performance on SNL is any indication, maybe missing their concert isn't such a big deal. At least that's what I'm going to tell myself about it.

Posted by: stebbins at January 11, 2005 5:29 PM

pssst...the Electric Six.

Now you know before everyone else. Unless you already knew. And in that case, they are SO OVER!

Posted by: johnny at January 11, 2005 6:32 PM

If Electric Six is mentioned on a blog, then they are over too, as is el toro rojo. In fact, I hereby declare EVERYTHING IS OVER!

"In fact, I hereby declare EVERYTHING IS OVER!"

Poor BlurryToby! To find out that he's "over"! Good!

I've never heard a SS song in my life.

Friend of mine, 30 year old ex-club kid, went to the Scissor Sisters show here in Dallas, performance before they were on SNL, said it was the best live performance/show he had been to ever, and he wasn't that big of a SS fan. Subsequently saw them on SNL and said it was pretty crappy compared to them in a live atmosphere.

Sure you will have a blast Jimbo, even if you are a bit behind the times. Franz Ferdinand is so 2003.

Ladies, this conversation is embarassing.

[BTW - The Witnesses, cLOUDDEAD, Play Paul....]

Posted by: sean at January 12, 2005 8:27 AM

Sean: you are over too.

Posted by: jimbo at January 12, 2005 9:36 AM

Check out 'The Bravery' & 'The Go Team' - they're not over for another day or so.

Posted by: Steve at January 12, 2005 11:57 AM

Honey - I'm so over, I haven't actually happened yet.

Posted by: sean at January 12, 2005 12:27 PM

"Italian Girls" by Hall & Oates from the H2O album!

OATES SINGS LEAD!

So over it's under!

Posted by: johnny at January 12, 2005 12:41 PM

Okay okay - how 'bout Captain & Tenille's "Love Will Keep Us Together" - which, it just occurs to me at this very moment, would make a lovely foil for Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart"....
