ingrates

Have a good weekend. I know I will. We will be making mojitos with fresh wintergreen from a nearby spring and sitting in the stream in lawnchairs pretending to fish.

One of my straight teammates from the rugby team is featured in tonight's episode of 'What Not To Wear' on TLC. He's lost a lot of weight for an upcoming wedding, and needs a new wardrobe. Not that he couldn't have asked one of us, thank you. We're here for a reason, people! Let us be your resource!

This morning I watched the ABC Today Show, and they were interviewing Alice Hoglan, mother of Mark Bingham, about the recent release of the 9/11 reports. Apparently the reports pretty much confirmed that some of the passengers were trying to storm the cockpit to take back control of the plane. Bingham is one of the dudes who may have helped storm the cockpit of flight 93, which crashed in a Pennsylvania field instead of the White House or the Capitol building on 9/11. He was also gay and a rugby player too.

It is kind of sad to think that Mark died to help save the lives of a very ingrateful bunch of rabid legislators who are actively working to ensure that people like Mark cannot openly serve in the military, adopt children or recieve partnership benefits for being in a long term relationship. Many people who are alive today due in part to Mark are screaming as loud as they can saying people like Mark are immoral and unlike 'normal' society, and yet Mark and people like him are capable of heroics, saving lives, and contributing to this country in many, many ways.

I don't need to say much more than that, other than Vancouver is lookin' pretty good these days. This is becoming a very sad country when certain contributing segments of society are so devalued.

Comments

My co-workers and I tried to get my sister nominated to be on "What not to wear" but we have not heard back from them yet. And she needs to get out of her "Daisy Duke" phase.

And about Mark Bingham and how it showed Gay people are the same as everyone else. That is very true indeed. And it showed that a person can be heroic in a time of need regardless of sexuality, etc.
But people only see us as the Jack from "Will & Grace" or those guys from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy".
Not people like me who served in the military, work long hours, and dont fit the stereotypical mold, and just want to have quiet evenings with their loved ones watching DS9.

And until people out there, both gay and straight realize that, nothing will change for us.

Iam off to drink MT Dew now.. damm I need the caffeine

TESTIFY Jimbo TESTIFY!! By the way Melissa Ethride wrote a song about him..........
"Tuesday Morning"

10:03 on a Tuesday morning
in the fall of an American dream
a man is doing what he knows is right
on flight 93

Loved his mom and he loved his dad
loved his home and he loved his man
but on that bloody Tuesday morning
he died and American

[chorus]
Now you cannot change this
You can't erase this
You can't pretend this is not the truth

Even though he could not marry
Or teach your children in our schools
Because who he wants to love
Is breaking your God's rules

He stood up on a Tuesday Morning
In the terror he was brave
And he made his choice and without a doubt
A hundred lives he must have saved

[chorus]

And the things you might take for granted
Your inalienable rights
Some might choose to deny him
Even though he gave his life

Can you live with yourself in the land of the free
And make him less of a hero than the other three
Well it might begin to change ya
In a field in Pennsylvania

[chorus]

Stand up America
Hear the bell now as it tolls
Wake up America
It's Tuesday Morning
Let's roll

Have a great time in the country Jimbo. Pretend to catch a fish for me!

DS9? No, I am sure you meant to say Stargate SG1.

Posted by: Cole at July 23, 2004 2:57 PM

Indeed.

I'm heading to Washington at Christmas to visit the parentals, and I might just keep heading north after that. If I ever do end up in the Great White North, I'll roll out the rug to all the other disaffected and displaced gay people. Consider yourself invited!

Fellow DC blogger here. Good point about Bingham and the legislators - I had not thought of it that way. I like his mother - she's a little bit of "light" in a dark sad story.

Love the piccie. Could you BE any cuter? I might even pass up a cupcake for you...

Bingham was truly a hero, as were all of those aboard that flight.

Sometimes, and I know it's terrible to say and I don't mean disrespect, I wish that plane had reached it's target of the White House. But Bush/Cheney weren't there anyway.

Is it wrong that I find Jimbo holding a horror movie weapon hot?

Hi there, Jimbo. Just bounced over here through a link in a post you left on Homer's World. Thought I would say, "Hi." I'm so glad that someone posted the words to the Melissa Etheridge song -- which I just LOVE. I love that whole album and it recently made me a neaveau Melissa fan...what took me so long?

Anyway, have a good week as I try to survive the DNC here in Boston.
