DC geek & bf moving to NYC

Hey all you NYC bloggurls and readers: a cute guy in my D&D group has been accepted into the NYU medical program (or something like that) and is moving to NYC in a month or so. He'd prefer to move near work, near Chelsea or NoChe, as they say. He comes with a hunky former rugby player boyfriend, also a big, giant sweetie, formerly on my team. Jimbo highly recommends them both, and they're quiet, have no pets, and they don't poop on the carpet or anything.

Rotsa Ruck on the Chelsea Front, unless they have a lot of money to pour into a place.

Here would be my threerecommendations:

If they could deal with a share, Rainbow Roommates has a pretty good placement rate. It can ve mega-time consuming though.

Craigs List (www.craigslist.org) has pretty good listings also.

And, finally, the Jersey City Option. Jersey City is right across the Hudson River from the West Village. I live ten minutes walk from the Grove Street PATH train station, and my communte to work in midtown Manhattan is 30 minutes door to door. When I drive into the city on weekends, I can get where I'm going in the West Village and Chelsea in about 15 minutes, depending on traffic. It totally works to have a car in Jersey City. I have a floor-through one bedroom apartment with lots of light 2 blks away from a park where I walk my dog for $1000/month. In fact, there's an apt in my building that is opening up on 4/1.

Hope this is helpful.

I thought we (NYCity Dwellers) called the area north of Chelsea, Hell-sea. I think as an homage to it being called Hell's Kitchen. Oh well, I like NoChe better.

My suggestion to them is that if work is mainly on the West Side, then move to the 100's and up on the West Side. The subway on the West Side of Manhattan is excellent. Craiglist.org is good but will take some time to look through. Now is a good time to start. Battery Park (near Ground Zero) is being subsidized by the Government. They are trying to bring in business to the area, so if they don't mind that area, it may work for both.

But if they do have a load-o-cash to spare, besides throwing some my way, they can try Chelsea, Hellsea/NoChe, or even the Village.

The other option that may work (once again, assuming they have mega-bucks to play with) is to purchase a place. Prices are down and in the long run pays off.

Okay, if they want more help, then they are more than welcome to contact me.

1. I lived in Hell's Kitchen for 5 years and only major fags call it Hellsea. No one who lives there calls it Hellsea. Sorry, Chelsea is getting as tired as The Village when it comes to gay life.

2. Craig's List is great. (craigslist.com)

3. If you want, I can give them my former landlord's phone number. No fee, rent stablized apartments in mid-town. He owns 6 buildings and is a very fair man. (I will only give the number to Jimbo, so don't everyone send me emails.)

p.s. NoChe is actually the area north of 23rd Street on the West side. Then there is the nowhere land of "mid-town west" in the 30's and then Hell's Kitchen or "Clinton" starting in the 40's. (I'm pretty sure HK is from 42nd street to 57th St.) That is all.

Jimbo,

You have to call it Hellsea 'cause you are a Major Fag.
