Comments

spoiler alert....

I read in the paper, (in an article in the Post by my favorite Post writer, Hank Stuever), that at the last second they both raise objections to the wedding and proclaim their heterosexuality...

whatever...

Bummer! COP OUT! After a rather heavy last two weeks, I really don't think America would mind the silliness of a gay professional wrestler marriage. Like the drag race, it could be considered community service to a despirited America.

According to the a couple of news sites it is indeed "SHOCK" a fake act put on by 2 str8 actors - err, I mean wrestlers. It dosen't matter. It seems they've both been depicted in a very positive light, so what the hell, it would seem good the the cause.

Listen, Miss Judo-Kwai-King-Dong-Muai-Do...they may be actors, and professional wrestling may be a soap opera for rednecks, but it's also a martial arts stressing massive displays of strength that deal the least amount of damage possible. True, the opposite of a 'true' martial art, but an art nonetheless.

To be truthful, I have immense respect for the wresters as athelets. To do all of those stunts with guys that big and NOT have anyone getting hurt is amazing. However, when you're staging a fake marriage for a fake gay couple I think you've stepped squarely out of the bounds of"Martial arts".

Its probably best to referee to pro wresting as a Performance art. That's seems to be the name that the wrestlers themselves use when doing serious interviews.

Well, tonight's performance is not necessarily a 'martial art', it's a 'marital art'. GET IT? BWA HA HAA HAAA!

I can safely say that I have never watched a wrestling show in my life and do not feel compelled to watch this debacle. Yes, we've all read how great it seems that the audience has been accepting of this people but I want to know how many of them actually thought they were really going to get married? I might also have more respect if they actually went through with it instead of it being a stunt, oh sorry I forgot we were talking about wrestling here. It's just a step up from Jerry Springer.

Disclaimer: I grew up in a trailer. I'm allowed to watch professional wrestling.

My comments on the wedding is that I'm glad that they could find eachother but yet Billy Gunn has been married for 10 years and has two boyz and that could never happen. Billy and Chuck are not gay and I'm happy because Billy & Chuck are both hot as hell!!!!!!!!!! Big Plus- NO RICO!!!!!!

OK, I'm prolly gonna catch a lot of flack for this, but here goes.
I haven't been much of a wrestling fan since the gorgeous Tito Santana left WWF, now WWE (I was more a Tito S fan than a wrestling fan, to be honest, but now I'm kinda getting into Chavo Guererro Junior, who out-gorgeouses even Tito)but I was channel-surfing that night and I caught the Billy and Chuck "uniting" (as I call a commitment ceremony) and may I ask this?
Was I the only one who was surprised, shocked, and appalled that it ended the way it did, in such a cowardly manner?
I am hetero myself, and I am a lady, but my work client is gay and partnered, I am a sucker for anything to do with love of any stripe, and I believe that gays have as much right to pledge and celebrate their love as us heteros do, and even though I know much of wrestling is make-believe, I kind of thought that B&C really were same-sex sweethearts becoming life partners and this was a history making moment in sports. After all, most athletes with same-sex sweethearts have been kept in the closet, especially guys. Look at diver Greg Louganis! Then, I thought the uniting was great and I was cheering the boys on and thinking how great they looked in their spiffy tuxedoes. I couldn't wait for them to be pronounced life partners.
Then came the swerve when the "grooms" angrily came out of the closet as hetero and said the whole thing was a stunt for a ratings boost. To add insult to injury, the fans' boos turned to cheers when they learned that these guys liked girls after all, further reinforcing the "message" that big, strong, handsome, muscular athletes are only supposed to love ladies.
If it had been genuine, that would have been fine. Or even if it had been pretend but the characters "went through with it" WITHIN THE PLOTLINE and went on to PORTRAY gay life partners, THAT would have been fine also. But the way it ended was just plain cowardly. I then thought it was insulting and disrespectful and trivialized the concerns of those people (like my client)for whom same-sex love is very real and not a publicity stunt or a make-believe plot device. I hoped my client and his life partner weren't watching this farce. If they did,I imagined they'd be so insulted and offended, they'd both get "headaches the size of Long Island."
I've noticed also that all the wrestlers who play gay characters are hetero in private life. If a gay wrestler came out of the closet "for real," and not as part of an angle or a plot device, THAT would be progress.
On another, but related note, I have noticed that whenever a wrestler is mentioned having a sweetheart, it's always part of a plot device, like Al Wilson and Dawn Marie. I never really read much of anything about these guys having partners (of either gender)outside the arena. (Hmmm, wonder if Chavo is partnered)
What I think would be beautiful would be, if JUST ONCE, for a change, instead of having a gimmicky "plot device," they have each wrestler come on stage after the matches and introducing and/or dramatically saying lovely things about their own real partners (whether guys or ladies). That would make a lovely Valentine's special one year. "WRESTLING AND ROMANCE. GRAPPLING GREATS AND THEIR SPECIAL SWEETHEARTS." Maybe even have soem of the old-school fighters and their partners, like handsome Tito Santana introducing the lovely Mrs. Tito and praising her to the stars.
I have nothing against fiction. I am an aspiring fiction writer. But I guess something like the hypothetical wrestling special I mentioned would show viewers that (a) love exists and is not just an entertainment "plot device" (some people start to doubt that after 100 blind dates)and (b) big, beefy muscle-guys can fall in love too (hetero or same-sex)
I guess I'm just a romantic :)
OK, I'm off my soap box.
And BTW, I personally don't think either Billy or Chuck are as handsome as Chavo Guererro Junior, in my opinion! Now, Chavo in a tuxedo . . . .

i state that the extreme gaynis of billy,is that he is most likly 1000% gay allthou chuck has basicly provine,(to me)he is only 1991% gay. but he is smart to leave billy before it becomes offical.

i am gay too

As sung by Billy or Chuck

"I once was a gay caballero
With a fancy headband and bleached hair-o
Then I hollered up front
"It was all just a stunt
and I'm really quite gladly he-TER-o"

OR
As sung by Billy or Chuck:

"I once was a gay caballero
who wrestled to earn some dinero
Then I said, right up-front
"It was only a stunt"
and I outed myself as he-TER-o
