"The Body Ventura"

Jocko keeps posting things on his Website that make it very difficult to work during the day after I've read said distracting blog entry. Then I go down the sinister path of following one of his provided links, and find this photo, which sends me further into the world of Attention Deficit Disorder. And then Fitz puts yet another mind addling photo up on his Website, and the afternoon's productivity is pretty much shot to hell. Thanks guys, now I'm going to get fired AND go straight to hell.

Speaking of bodies, my favorite politician Gov. Jesse Ventura is now writing a musical! A few months ago I was overjoyed with Buffy: Once More With Feeling, and now "The Body Ventura" is to be released as a Broadway musical. Can the year get any better for Jimbo or what? Next thing you know, Prince will be teaming up with Madonna and Janet to launch a Civilization III musical, to open at the Kennedy Center, with Jimbo as Mahatma Gandhi.

Those damn WTO protesters are now gracing NYC. Stoopid kids...don't they value the concept of "positive spin"? They're distracting a very honored police force in a touchy time, yet still insist on protesting. The fact that they are unconcerned with the perception of their cause furthers my belief that it's just a bunch of college kids looking for a good time on the streets, and have no clue or real concern about what they're talking about

Bush supports Peace Corps?

Oh my...I was utterly shocked that Bush proposed expanding the Peace Corps and similar domestic programs in his speech last night. Isn't Peace Corps supposed to be a Democrat thing? Bush keeps suprising me. Now we'll see if he increases the stipend accrual that PC volunteers get once they leave the program...it's at a rate that hasn't changed since it's inception in the 60s. Kinda makes it hard for a middle-class kid to come out of Peace Corps with $4,000 as a start-up fund, with student loans to pay off.

I was stationed in Kazakstan...they pulled the volunteers out of there after 9/11. Now Bush says he wants to put volunteers in Afghanistan. W, I'd wait a little while before you send fresh-faced, optimistic Americans over there. Things are a little touchy right now.

Most of my belongings are in boxes spread out over much of the D.C. area. We are somehow supposed to unpack our vital belongings into one small room shared by both of us. If I don't get back to you, it's because I can't find a phone, computer, or the door.

Back From Manchester

I'm back! Damn, that trip was too short. Manchester suprised me in that it wasn't the grey, industrial village I was expecting. Thanks to the destructive IRA bomb in '96, they were able to revitalize a decaying downtown, and now it's England Party Central. The entire city was clean and modern, and the clubs were amazing.

We went "clubbing" on Saturday, and these folks put the most cracked-out American circuit boys to shame. I was only able to withstand two hours of their clubs' intensity before having to go home. And tawk about leanalicious red-headed Manchester boys. Oh Mah Gawd. I was wide-eyed and drooling the entire time.

Mmmm...beer. Good English beer.

Oh yeah, I played rugby too. We had a very fun match on their muddy turf. I loved thier pitch, as it was wet peat-loam soil, and a pleasure to be tackled on. Only got a few cuts and scrapes. Afterwards, we soaked in their giant tub, dubbed the "petri dish" by the Americans. The whole point of it was to get the Manchester Mud off of you, otherwise impossible to get off by a normal shower. They were "luuvley" hosts, and I had lots of fun. I recommend Manchester highly!

butt-Packers

This morning my supervisor from Wisconsin walked up to my gay coworker and I and shouted: "Damn butt-Packers!!!" She was, of course, referring to the Green Bay Packers' sloppy loss on Sunday, not her two gay underlings. However, the immediate reaction from Shane and myself was shock.

Blue Light Special

NOOOOO!!! K-Mart has filed for bankruptcy!!! What shall I do without my Martha Stewart Collection, Blue Light Specials, or my Slurpees? Now bankruptcy is no guarantee of a closing, but I fear the worst. I got a very nice lamp and a stylish watering can from K-Mart, and I won't forget that. 'sniff'

I'll be flyin' to Manchester, England tomorrow for about five days for a rugby clinic. Our 'sister' team, the Manchester Spartans, is hosting us as we did last May. The weather outlook doesn't look promising, but hey, what do you expect with England in January. I am NOT cardiovascularly prepared for the match at 2pm on Saturday, but I am looking forward to clobbering my rival, who I hope will be playing my opposite as scrumhalf. Jimbo got skills after two seasons of pure scrumhalving, so look out. I'm sure all the yummy British beer has done little for the other guy's fitness level. I do not forsee a win for the Renegades, as we are short many of our superstars. However, we do have a solid team consisting of San Franciscans and Renegades, but I fear the Spartans will have their best in the game. I'll do my best.

When I return, I'll be living elsewhere, in upper Northwest DC. We'll be staying there while our "new" house's basement gets renovated. First, we move into the basement while the upper levels of Castlevania get get renovated, then we move upstairs.

My horoscope is strangely accurate today, considering the move and the trip: There may be more drama and chaos in your world today than you may feel comfortable with, dear Capricorn. Try not to get overwhelmed by the overabundance of energy that is present today. Things may seem larger than they really are so don't be afraid. More than likely, there is less to worry about than you think. You have all the tools you need to conquer. The hardest part will be to convince your mind that there is nothing to be concerned of.

But then again, predictions of any sort for me with the word "drama" in it will usually be on the mark.

I had a good weekend which included a requisite and vital day of vegetating on Monday. The weekend started out shaky as I was a total nervous bitch about the trip and the move, but I got over it once several things on my agenda got done. Bobby and I had a great time at Nation on Sunday night, as there was lots to see, and not much of it uncovered. However, I forsee a waning of my interest in clubbing - the last couple times I've gone I've simply been bored, an indication that I'm getting over it. Oh well, time to take up Macrame and latch hook.

Warder

Wow, what a week. We closed on our current house, and the deal went through on the "new" place on Warder street. It needs some work, possibly more than what is initially thought, as is usually the case for most fixer-uppers. In the meantime we'll be staying at Thommy's. Here's the map to the new digs, now stop asking me where it is. It has a humongous back yard, which I will turn into a cucurbitarium. What's that, you ask? It's a veritable farm of ornamental and birdhouse gourds, with space for a pumpkin patch as well. We will only grow squash crops, and nothing else. Well, that's my idea, anyway, subject to discussion. We do not get to keep the mummified pigeon corpse in the attic, sadly. 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, driveway, wrap around porch, .25 acre lot.

Never drink a martini before working out, or going into a sauna or steam room. It makes you really dizzy.

Our Nation's Security

When the security of our Nation is handled by the same people who make Websites like this, I get very, very worried. I've never wanted to keel-haul another Webmaster before, but I'm willing to sacrifice my own kind for the betterment of the world. I'm not even going to start on what I witness here at National or Dulles Airports, otherwise none of y'all would ever fly in to visit me.

We'll be moved out of the house by the 27th. At that time I'll be in Manchester, so I gotta start packin' this weekend. The Aqarium's going to My'ra, the dresser to Jon, and the rest to the four winds. Also at the last minute, I have to pick up enough rugby jerseys to dress an entire team, and bring it over to Manchester, thanks to the wonderful idea spawned by Rai and Mike(left). Mental note: my friendship with both of the aforementioned dreamers (but not doers) depends on me never, ever working with them again on any sort of project. Recreation yes, work no. Mental note #2: Jimbo, as you've learned time and again with organizations, never, ever deal with tee-shirts, jerseys, or other memorabalia for an event or group. Tee-shirts are like STDs: they take a long time to go away if you can't sell them or otherwise get rid of them. Plus, there will always be the people who think it would be cool to have a t-shirt for the event, but they are rarely, if ever, the people who actually procure the said clothing. They are never the ones who drag around the clothes either.

something good is gonna happen

"Ooooh...I just know that something good is gonna happen," "this time, la Luna, I'll light my torch and," "just breathe," "give a little bit of heart and soul, now don't you think I'm thankful boy, this time I need," "to set adrift on memory bliss." Bobby burned me a cool 80s & 90s mix CD.

A lot is going on...we may close on the house on the 27th, at which time I'll be in Manchester, which I have to organize for the San Franciscans and DC Metro folks from here, while getting their jerseys from some unnamed vendor, while balancing my checking account which is fucked up due to my forgetting my automatic auto loan transfer, meanwhile I have to get a washing machine repairman to come fix the old thing on Friday, and attend the pageantry events this weekend, and possibly take down my aquarium if we move. Something's gotta go...I may not even make it to the much-looked forward to Reaction dance party on Sunday. I may just not be in the right place to go, despite the much-anticipated visuals. We'll see.

Archaeologist Tired of Unearthing Ancient Evils. Happened all the time when I was a kid.

Hmm...I'll have to disagree with Andrew Sullivan's recent comments about the possibilities of a gay cable TV channel. "The great achievement of the last few years has been the mainstreaming of openly gay writers, thinkers, actors, sportsmen and women, teachers, priests, et al into the regular culture. Itžs also been wonderful to see just normal gay people in mainstream soaps, sitcoms, movies, magazines and so on. Isnžt a retreat into a specially designated niche channel something of a step backward?" While it has been nice to see more open characters and people in society, and ghettoization is a bad thing, I believe people are like Cheerios in milk. We will always bunch up into little groups of similar interest and type. I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of nor a thing to work against. It's natural and probably some kind of evolutionary response in society. The challenge is to get your group to be able to work efficiently with the other group. The moment you can't do that, you're in trouble. The concept of "normal" is relative to the group that you're in. My "normal" gay friends are viewed quite differently by people from Reston who, in turn, think that they are "normal". I hang out with so many urban queers that it's "normal" to me, and the 'burbanites are an abnormal thing.

Herbie vs. Christine, Favre vs. Warner

Battle of the scruff: Favre vs. Warner next Sunday! Who should I root for? No question - I'm a cheesehead. Here's another "vs." table from Jimbo to complement my Janet vs. Madonna concert factoid breakdown. This time, we compare and contrast Herbie vs. Christine. Who would win? Would Herbie win if Pinky Tuscadero was at the wheel, or would Christine win if Jason were driving?

carmex

I'm bored at work...not trying to make any statement here. I was just trying to see how close I could approximate the fonts on the oh-so-deco Carmexcontainer. I do use Carmex every day. Hmm...interesting: a brief Web search for Carmex produces several Carmex and other lip balm addiction conspiracy sites. What's up with that? According to Carmex, these myths and accusations are untrue. It pleases me to use Carmex, and nothing else seems to work for chapped lips other than unskimmed milk straight from the cow, but that's another story.

Differentiated from the largemouth bass by the depth the mouth reaches beyond the eye. Smallmouths don't extend beyond the eye. Sometimes I miss being a park ranger. Acceptance or rejection of queens.

puppies!

What's worse than an absent neighbor with two yapping pit bulls in his house? A neighbor with two yapping pit bulls and THEIR LITTER OF PUPPIES! We were wondering what the stench was -- obviously the unkempt nursery that's right next to our closet. Ghetto Troll has struck again. We continue to call the Humane Society about the constant din.

However, the issue is moot because we'll be moving out by the end of the month if all goes well. We have a contract on our house, and one is on the place we want on Warder St. I'll keep you posted.

arboretum link

Sorry, no comments available yet. I'm waitin' for jimbo to reinstall Greymatter. The site may be back to looking lame for a while, but I'll fix it, make it stronger, faster, and more importantly, more fabulous.

Finally found the link to the National Arboretum, which is somewhat near our house. We take Max there all the time. Brighten up that dreary winter day and update your desktop image with a pic from the award winning daylillies page.

Dang this week is going slow. Nothing much to say, other than I'm running over my lunch break today, as it's so nice out. On this weekend's agenda is to sleep in a lot, have dinner with some friends, and geek out yet again.

sunken ships

I had a sad dream this morning...something about a ship, more of a yacht sized vessel, not like the one on jimbo's blogart entry. The plot of the dream wasn't inherently sad, I just woke up with a sad feeling after the dream. The ship was sunken. I first saw it when I was fishing for salmon. What I was fishing off of I don't know, it didn't seem to matter in the dream. I think I dreamt about salmon because I watched "Dr. Doolittle 2" the other day. When the domesticated bear in the movie tried to dive for salmon, they laughingly kept escaping his maw, saying "Whazzaaaap!?" Anyway, these fish weren't talking, but between catching fish, I would always snag on something. It wasn't until the ship was lit from underwater that I could finally see it. So me and my buddy (identity unknown) went down to investigate. We could, of course, breathe water and required no SCUBA gear. It hadn't been sunk for long, and there were big, healthy salmon swimming around, but they weren't the "Whazzap!?" salmon, just the normal ones.

Must escape MWAA. At yesterday's tech meeting, I was told that Javascript is a security threat, and I can't use it. Network Security Officer Tuvok (actually more of a moronic Klingon than a Vulcan) has declared that the Authority will turn off Javascript at some point in the future, and I must design the site so Authority users can use mwaa.com. This confuses me, as the overwhelming majority of visitors to mwaa.com are the traveling public, a group of people who are not paranoid and do have javascript disabled on their browsers. I'm told I have to replace Javascript with Java applets, which are apparently much more secure. They are, however, slow as molasses in Minnesota, and I don't want to use them. I gotta get outta here, it's insane. I'll post my resume soon for anyone who's interested in hiring me or finding a sane, liberal work atmosphere.

UPS Billy doll

Oh mah gawd. Now there's UPS Billy! I want one so bad. Actually, it's "BPS Billy" of Billy Parcel Service, but you get the point. I hope they come out with a Jocko doll soon too.

It was a mellow weekend. We geeked out on Saturday, and then went to the nudie bar. It will fulfill my requirements to go there with Brian once a year. It just doesn't do much for me. If I need to see what I need to see, I'll go to the Eagle.

On Sunday Bobby and I watched Jurassic Park III. I really wanted all of them but the Sam Neill archaeologist guy to be eaten. However, I don't want the dinosaurs to get upset stomachs from eating bad actors, so I guess the truly humane approach would be to let them survive. Leave it to Spielberg to dilute any technical or scientific fun out of a Chriton storyline.

P.A. Woof

There's nothing like starting the day with a prostate exam. Well, I started out with coffee at Starbuck's, actually. I got my physical exam today, with lonely Physician's Assitant Harry Woof lamenting on a lack of substantial dates to find in DC, rather than tricks. Poor guy. Most of the people he meets are his patients, who are understandably wierded out by the doctor/patient confidentiality thing. Hmm...Jimbo begins the matchmaking process.

Friday night will be spent chillin' out. Saturday starts with Gurl Tawk Breakfast with Rai and Mike, followed by workout with Gurl, and then geek out and play D&D with the gang. Sunday is BOBBY DAY.

What is love? GWAR is love.

You know your husband really loves you when he burns a CD of GWAR's greatest hits to give to you on your birthday. This CD was created by a husband who normally prefers showtunes, candy-pop and love ballads. Keep in mind he had to listen to at least a few seconds of every track before he downloaded it. GWAR is not pleasant to the uninitiated ear. GWAR is pain, GWAR is despair, but GWAR is also love (insert chorus of "aaaah!"s here). Try starting the day out with GWAR while driving to work. It really adds some spice into your day.

GWAR's newest single, "Diarrhea of a Madman" has been released to the world! Damn, even GWAR uses PHP as a Web page scripting language.

2002!

I see dog of orange

grey kitty too.

His name is Max,

his name is Pooh.

And I think to myself...what a wonderful world!

(except for the fur, the poop, the litter box, the barking, etc.)

Happy New Year! Bobby and I went out to a French restraunt on Pennsylvania Avenue for the second year in a row with friends. Ron got the insta-flu all of a sudden, and had to leave with Dave. I fear he may be in for a lot of down-time for the next three days or so. We hung out, ate, smoked cigars, and then went over to Jim and Mike's for some fabulous dessert and to pass on the New Year. It's telling that you've passed 30, and after the ball drops on Times Square, you are suddenly sleepy and want to go home. I only had 2 glasses of wine, but perhaps I was still pooped from going out on Saturday. I'm glad we didn't go out amidst the crowds. That would have drained me even faster.

Today I'm gonna geek out, make my character for Saturday's game, and work on the adventure, which I will not be facilitating. Rob's gonna have a crack at it. He's really good at killing the player's characters, so I won't get blamed for it! BWA HA HAAAA!!! We're also gonna clean up all the holiday decor, namely the damnable evergreen products that are shedding needles all over the place.

I'm very thankful that nothing horrid happened anywhere in the U.S. last night. HAPPY New Year!
