barbs
This weekend was Jimbo Weekend. I was all burnt out on Thursday night, forcing Bobby to have dinner at a nice restraunt with a Princess Jimbo. I shoulda just said no, I need to chill. So Friday morning I called in sick, and had a nice Jimbo Day at home, doing a lot of nothing. That evening I dined at Taco Bell and went to see Moulin Rouge once and for all. It was a lovely film, visually fantastic, but with your basic plot of boy meets gorgeous girl, boy falls in love with girl, and girl dies tragically. There were some clever modern medleys, including the opening scene where they somehow manage to blend "Lady Marmalade", "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Rythm of the Night" in one scene. There was a male interpretation of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" which had me rolling. On Tuesday Bobby and I are seeing Marky Mark and the Funky Monkeys at the Uptown Theatre. I'm looking forward to that.
On Saturday I got up early to go tubing with the gurls down the Shenandoah River near Harper's Ferry. It was a lovely time, with a few rapids worthy of an innertube. We drove to Berkeley Springs for a big meal and some thrift store shopping, then back home. I was beat, but Bobby went out for a bit anyway, which was remarkable for him.
The next day was cold and rainy - perfect for vegging around the house! We've had a remarkably pleasant summer in DC, with few days that are so typical of a sauna. I went with Jon to a few aquarium stores to re-populate the aquarium. I got tinfoil barbs, giant danios, corys, and 11 tiny neon tetras. By last evening there were 7 neons, and this morning only 2. I'll have to buy them larger next time.

sweaty
Oh, the games we play...like "Fling the Cow"!
Ugh...we're having a three-day rugby clinic this week starting yesterday. Bobby led a part of the ninety-minute workout last night, and it was of course hell. Add to the lovely DC humidity that's returned in force, and it was a doozy of a workout. Today promises to be even more fun, with a 110-degree heat index. Pray for thunderstorms, as that's the only reason our coach, a Navy Commander, will cancel practice.
I'll forget it all this Saturday, when I go tubing down the Upper Potomac!

cool art
I like the artwork of Tony DiTerlizzi. He does a lot of work for role-playing games and geeky card games.

flourescent white rabbit
Go ask Alice about this one. While having a glow-in-the-dark rabbit with jellyfish genes would be cool, I wouldn't analyze as deeply into owning one. Feed it pellets and an occasional carrot, and clean up the poop, and that's about all there is to it.
Speakin' of pets, last week an untreated water change in my aquarium caused a bala shark holocaust. One chose to leap out of the tank rather than suffer through the horrors of untreated DC water. So I cleaned it out, treated the water, and prepped it for a new batch of less-sensitive tropical fish. This time I'll avoid the bitchy angelfish (I have too many friends like them) and go for some color.

Mr. Barrett
This Mr. Barrett is not Jimbo.

I want a new site
I had a boring training session this morning, so I surfed the entire remainder of the Internet not blocked by the Airport Authority's paranoid server filters. That included reading the entire Web Logs of Fitz, jimbo, Jimbo Jocko Homo, and anyone linked to them as well. jimbo and Jimbo need to write something light and fluffy for a change. Shame on Rob, Jon and Bubba for either not updating their sites, or having no sites at all anymore for some reason. Jocko has an amazing links page where you can get lost surfing for hours, and I still like his clean shave. Arf.
Jimbo Today needs a facelift, badly. Since I'm lookin' around for a job, I really need to make it poignantly artsy and pretentious like Jocko and jimbo's. Then again, no one can tell what the hell they are thinking, unlike Fitz, who keeps it simple and real. The only poetry I can write are haikus, and my stories are best suited for the Golden Books crowd. OK, here I go and try to make Jimbo Today artsy:
Potomac osprey,
nesting near the Yellow Line,
only Jimbo sees.
There, that's better. I feel like I just took a big cathartic, artsy, metaphysical dump. Aaaah. Someone toss me the roll of Baby Soft.
How would you like Jimbo Today to look? Click on the "comments" link below, to let me know. It's also a neat way to tell me where to go if you like. I still haven't figgered out what that Karma thingy is though. You need to tell me what to do as I have no inherent originality, and mimic other Websites in design.

Madonna!
I had fun yesterday in the rugby tournament. I was assigned to a team randomly, and we played 5 games in the nice weather. We did poorly in the first 3 matches, making no tries whatsoever, but won the loser bracket! On our team was an interesting mix of experience, including a huge air force dude who had never played before. He learned quick though.
I'm looking around [again] for another job. After a year contracing for the DC airports, I've decided that contracting sucks. You do all the work, and take all the blame for it. Plus, the management is too damn draconian there. The other day I was hassled for having houseplants in my cubicle, which is located near the door where all the smokers go to take breaks, and adjacent to a storage area where deliveries occur. I miss my windowed, private office that I had when I worked for the Dept. of Commerce.

Internship Opportunity
Hey Kids! There's a new opening for an intern position at Representative Condit's office. Apparently they lost their last intern...
"Intern Opportunities: Whether interning in Modesto, Merced, or Washington D.C., working in one of Rep. Condit's offices can be an extremely rewarding experience. Typical duties of Interns can range from assisting with phone's to researching legislative projects."
Can this guy be any more of a public relations imbecile? I mean, even if he's totally innocent, he's made the worst PR choices every step of the way. Even on my most tactless, graceless days, I've made better choices.

harlotfest
This weekend I will be playing in a harlotfest rugby tournament. That is, each team consists entirely of "harlots" or "whores" from other teams. To whore in rugby is to fill in a slot that another team needs to fill. When I go to the tournament, they'll take my name, position and skill level, and put it in a database. They'll mix it up and assign random players to teams of 7.
A cool side note to this tournament is that they will be giving nice rugged summer rugby jerseyes instead of the usual cheapo tee shirts that are supplied by the sponsors. Apparently the tourney organizers approached dying .companies that needed a quick and easy tax write-off, to fund team shirts. Thus, I'll come home with a nifty random team jersey. If only they supplied underwear, I'm almost out...

fish that got away
Friday night at Atlas was fun, the music was good, but the crowd not all that pretty. I made it 'til about 2a.m. and then grampaw had to go home. Brian's faghag Cindy used her magical powers of haggery to draw in any men Brian and I were interested in with ease. It was a flirty night, but I had to let Pat go.
Sunday I went fishing in the Upper Potomac near Berkeley Springs, West Virginia with My'ra. We managed to catch many small bass, sunfish and pumpkinseed, even with a makeshift rod originally intended for deep-sea fishing. I caught a 10" bass, which later jumped out of the bucket we were keeping it in. Really! It jumped out!!!
That seemed to be the theme for the weekend...the ones that got away.

Goin' out
I'm goin' out with Brian and faghag Cindy tonight to dance to the grooves of DJ Keana. I sort of got a nap in the NE din of DC, so I should be ready to go. If I'm lucky I'll make it to 2a.m..

New blog...
Howdy. Yep, my Web log was down for a while as my gracious host moved it to a new server. There will be some bugs for a while until I fix this new format TO MY OWN IMAGE...until then, you must suffer a bland Web log.
