fDeluxe (which consists of several members from The Family) performing “Gaslight” on Twin Cities Public television:

The Family originally recorded “Nothing Compares 2 U” with a male voice of lead singer St. Paul. The song was written by Prince, as were most of the tracks on their album. The other vocalist is Susannah Melvoin, Wendy’s twin sister.

I tried to like the Family, and actually got their debut disk, but could never get into it. But I never liked more than 1-3 songs of Sheila E.either. I was more intrigued to see Sheena Easton do more with Prince – and not that crappy “sugar walls” thing either.

eric leeds on sax! there’s a youtube clip of prince singing “i wanna be your lover” in 1988, with eric leeds on sax. he’s brilliant. very few mo’s seem (in dc, at least) seem to appreciate the purple one and his various protégées (though he seems a bit off in recent years).
