After 6 days without blogging TJ is O.K.

It's been another insane busy week, but I just wanted to report that today I established telephone contact with TJ who is "on the ground," and it appears that he is in good health.

OMG I just read that the dude who owns everything on Fire Island is selling everything to some twink. Fire Island is DOOMED!

Hate me if you will, but I think newly elected Kennedy replacement Scott Brown is kinda hot, then and now. I think the Democrats need to grow a pair of cojones and deliver what they promise instead of offering watered down wimp-ass compromises. And the Repubs need to be less crazy. What we now have in Washington is a crazy eunuch making pissy legislation.

The incredible crystal caverns of Cueva de los Cristales - I can't believe these caverns are real! Visit The Iron Ammonite for more on this amazing natural wonder.

Florida home to "diverse array" of non-native wildlife, including this 6' monitor lizard living at Air Reserve base.

The Safeway I occasionally get my groceries at has been shut down due to a vermin problem (probably rats). Eeeew! Please keep your garbage lids on tight, and don't leave trash out on the curb.

Caprica debuts this Friday on SciFy. I'm not sure if I'll catch it but lemme know how it goes.

I think I am going to buy a Nikon CoolPix P90 soon.

You shop at that Safeway? For the love of Peter, Paul & Mary why?

TJ should feel awkward for being such a slacker blogger. I am still waiting on the Durban Bud Jiggy Dance. I don't think he got any cool dance moves, but the jury is still out...

I am curious why you are buying the Nikon CoolPix P90 now instead of the Cannon you mentioned earlier.

Thanks!

Speaking of cameras, have you ever considered a DSLR as opposed to a Point & Shoot? There is a learning curve to using them (DSLRs), but it is not something to have screaming nightmares about. DSLRs are endlessly customizable too. Particularly in terms of lenses. With a point and shoot, you are stuck with what comes out of the box. Camera doesn't have the moxie for a particular shot? Tough cookies, son. Not so with a DSLR. Just change the lenses and you are golden.

DSLR are also quicker to respond than Point n' Shoots. Their crowning feature, though, is that they give control of the shot to the user. You won't have to worry about the camera arbitrarily deciding to adjust the settings of a picture you take and ruining the shot. Of course, this also means that if you take a shitty photo, there is no one to blame but YOU. Happily, most DSLRs have an auto setting that you can use and remove as you become more comfortable with the features your camera offers.

Myself? I roll around with a Nikon d3000. It is an entry-level DSLR with a ton of features as well as a superb hand-holding setting that I can switch to whenever I get o'erwhelmed by all the options.

White balance, F-stops and ISOs, oh my!

Hope this helps.

P.S.
http://snapsort.com/ is a fantastic resource for comparing cameras.
gizmodo.com and cnet.com are also really good for reviews.
