A View From My Roof

Our water heater was going haywire last night and this morning, so I had to crawl up into the attic to check on what was wrong. It eventually fixed itself, but while I was up there I went through the roof portal to snap a few shots of what you can see from my roof. My camera is dying, so some of the photos didn't turn out well.

Here is the United States Capitol building:

The Washington Monument:

National Cathedral:

And Howard University Hospital:

I'm just a few blocks south of Howard University Hospital, and can hear ambulances coming and going all day and night. But I've gotten used to it and sleep fairly well.

I am thinking of getting the Canon SX20 IS. Any thoughts on that or recommendations for other cameras? Zoom and macro is important to me so I can get cool close-ups of bugs or pics of birds from far away.

Thanks for sharing! I love the shot of the Capital building, the statue on top of the dome is one of my favorite sculptures!

Hey Jimbo,
I think your best bet on a camera is the Canon SX120. I tried out several other cameras but the SX takes the best low-light photos that I have come across. I liked mine so well, I bought one as Christmas gift for my daughter-in-law. It takes fantastic pix.

A buddy bought the SX20 for the same reason - wildlife near their farm. He's got some amazing shots with the zoom the last couple of winters. And great shots of his horses but he didn't need the zoom for that, of course.

Nice to see the cathedral. My great great grandfather was the first Bishop and laid the cornerstone there. His sarcophogus is in Bethlehem chapel

Happy New Year, Jimbo!

I use two different Canon's, an EOS Rebel XTi and a little point and shoot A580. The Rebel rocks and the 580 really puts out for a pocket camera without IS. You really can't go wrong with Canon, especially the SLRs.

I have a Panasonic DMC-ZS3 which I absolutely love - has a fantastic zoom and macro and takes awesome outdoor pics.

If you want to do some good camera comparisons, Flickr has pages for virtually every type of camera with lots of pictures taken with each one - check out the pages for some of the cameras you're interested in (and, btw, I've seen some very good images using the cannon you're interested in)

Just wanted to say that although your camera may be going, the pixelation makes the picture of the cathedral look like a pointilistic painting. Great shot!
