the return of shag carpeting

Another Prince interview, and a Wendy and Lisa interview from Sean. Wendy tends to say "you know" a lot in her conversations. And I want to correct a former entry where I said they weren't lesbians. They are, and were together for almost 20 years, but now their relationship is less personal and more professional.

Could this be an end to the architecture trend of cold, hard-edged, boxy, IKEA-inspired modern buildings? I hope so. But it's more likely Georgetown is just sticking to its neighborhood design theme. While I loves the whole Swedish look of Duplex, BeBar, Town and Halo, such places tend to be very loud and hard to hear in as there are few warm fuzzy things to absorb sound. Or maybe I'm just old and going deaf. I would like to see a return of rounded edges, shag carpet, or even FUR on walls and bathroom fixtures.

diabeetusRandom Fur News Item: Italian Maremmas sheepdogs guard penguin colony with success. Deer are becoming a problem in DC, other urban areas too.

Jeremy informed me that there is a small diabeetus cult on YouTube. I never knew.

I occasionally see John Berry out at the gym and chat a bit. He is the partner of a former Wetskins water polo teammate and the current director of the National Zoo. Word has it that he's accepted an offer from Obama to be director of the Office of Personnel Management. He was formerly the executive director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation before becoming director of the National Zoo. At the time of his appointment at the Zoo, the park had been undergoing a lingering media crisis about poor management and unacceptable animal care. He was brought in to fix things and restore vision. More proof that Obama is seeking tested managers, which is good management. This is good because right now we need good managers with a proven record of having fixed things, as opposed to charismatic figureheads who look good on a podium but are only capable of fucking things up.

Excellent news on John Barry, i went to the zoo when they were killing the animals and then after he took over it was much nicer, less killing.

I just came across a blurb in our Seattle Gay News rag about the Renegades Rugby Team.

Well if you lived on the west coast you could join my friends and me for our annual Blackcomb trek this weekend. I unfortunately hurt my hand at the gym so i will be the cook and might do some snowshoeing.

So ... do the British have shag carpeting? Just asking. You know, curious here in the back country ...

Personally, anything that requires a rake to make it look good gets my attention.

Praise Barack! It will be good to have a good OPM director immediately out of the door. Linda Springer was pretty decent, Kay Cole James was Lurita Doan-like. The years ahead promise to be interesting with the different opinions the President-elect has as well as "reforms"/changes ("reforms" are rarely more than changes) in the pipeline. Hopefully they won't be pushing reorganization without very clear planning like *cough* DHS.

I still think Apple should have built their store in that vacant space at 14th and U. That's where all the hipsters are, and it would totally transform the neighborhood.

But no, they go safe and build in malls and Georgetown. Nothing in the ghetto. Steve Jobs hates black people.
