That pretty much sums up the weekend and two-day holiday. I only got as close as my gym on Connecticut Avenue to the festivities, but managed to take a cool photo of the exodus of the enormous crowd flowing north from the National Mall after the inauguration:
Exodus
More multimedia of everything from the long weekend here on washingtonpost.com.

The residents are breathing a collective sigh of relief that it's over and we can have our city back, albeit with a more hopeful vibe to it all. Some of character of the District of Columbia changes with the administration, and just as we felt an unctuous pall fall over the city when W got into office, a new feeling is coming on. I have been through inauguration celebrations for Clinton and the two Ws, and I'll have to say this is the craziest I've ever seen the city for any inaugural celebration. There are National Guard dudes standing out on the corner of Q and New Jersey, and Army trucks and tour buses have been going by my home all day.

It is also wonderful that nothing really bad happened. I predict there will be more than a few cases of frostbite, and on NPR this morning I heard that someone had fallen on the tracks at Metro Center. But no riots, stampedes or gunshots I'm happy to report - aside from the usual suspicious gun-like sounds here in Shaw.

I won't complain if we get to see more of Joe Biden's handsome son Beau. Hrrrowrrr!

From boobob: A beard song about what beards do and do not go together with. And yesterday was the most depressing day of the year. For George W I'm sure! Buh-bye Bush!

Jimbo,

Glad you survived the day. I was wondering how you were doing. Guess it's best you stayed away from the festivities. You didn't have an apartment full of out-of-town friends?

Hehe, I thought I *HAD* to share this with you:

Jimbo: While the Bush Administration is finally out of office, he did do some things right. Also his staff and he were very gracious and helpful to the Obamas.
