Role Models

I went out to the secret undiscovered and empty Prince George's Plaza theatres to see Role Models this evening with Dreamy Ron. I was expecting a raunchy comedy from Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd, but the film really surprised me by the end. It was fun and what the previews don't tell you is most of the plotline involves excessive LARP*-ing, possibly one of the geekiest passtimes ever invented by nerds. The film was obnoxious, fun and heartwearming and worth a viewing at the theatres.


What I didn't mention the other day was a disturbing encounter on the way back from a fun night at Town. At around 3:30am on our way back home, me and Skwurl and Chad crossed paths with a guy on 5th near Q who had a freshly bloodied face. I remembered seeing him earlier that night at the club. I've seen my share of bloodied faces, but this was far worse than any post-match injury. After he passed we stopped and considered what to do, and turned around and caught up to him to offer him cab fare home, but he seemed out of it and determined to keep going.

We've since learned that he's OK having gone to the doctor on Sunday for stitches and an exam. He's got mild trauma but is now OK, but can't remember much of what happened.

This now makes 7 people I know of who've gotten mugged or beaten in the last year near Shaw, U Street or Columbia Heights. Miss In-Shaw documents another mugging that happened a block away on the same night. I can't stress enough the importance of being aware of your surroundings or just taking a cab home when you can. It's just not safe in our neck of the woods these days.
