a note to continuing Clinton supporters - OMG people get a grip
I suppose it is your right to vote like a douche bag. But here is the 411 from me, who has lived in DC for ten years with friends who are lobbyists or otherwise are some kind of vermin doing their vile work up on Capitol Hill (I still love you even though you are a despicable rodent, fyi).
I've heard a lot in my time here, sometimes more than I care to. I have some insight on politics and how things work here. Maybe people tell me things because they know I don't give a shit, but here's what I know:
Politics are a lot like rugby. You can beat the crap out of someone, punch them in the 'nads, stomp on their face with your cleats or otherwise abuse somebody for 80 minutes. But when it's over, you go and have a beer together and hope to do the same to them next year. Politics are brutal like that too. When you're pushing an agenda or running for an office, you will shit down someone's throat, stab them in the back, or cut their Achilles' tendon. But when the lobbying or campaign is over, you have to be friends because you might need your opponent's support some other day.
Both Clinton and Obama know this. They've both been at this game for some time. I would have been fine with either candidate, but one lost and one continues on. And last night the one who lost urges you support the other. Her pleas were sincere. Your option is four more years of gross overspending, more government (despite the fact that Republicans claim they are against more government) and more profiteering on fraudulent levels.
If you are pouting and stomping your feet that your candidate lost, and vow to vote for the other party or not vote at all, you are a dumb shit and you don't really understand how things work. Politicians understand that there are losers and winners and you have to cooperate after the fact even though somebody lost - do you understand this? Yeah, both sides were nasty in the campaign, but like I said, you kiss and make nice afterwards. Be a good sport, not a sore loser. If you hold a grudge you won't get to play again.
Hillary is a respectable tough-ass survivor who now has different ways to get things done now that she's relegated back to the Senate. But she didn't get the candidacy, and she's moving on because that's the way things go. She all but ordered her supporters to get over it and support Obama, but do y'all need counseling or something before you can listen to what she said? If you are choosing to be contrary or obstinate, you are truly the hysterical minion everyone says you are.

Reasoned discussions of political reality just don't cut it for some people. If the rabid Hillarites think that voting for a man who calls his wife a cunt in public (or private for that matter) is somehow going to advance the status of women in this country, then I think they get what they deserve.
Ahem... I am a proud Southerner who worshipped at the altar of Hillary Clinton. It IS possible to drag me kicking and screaming to the other side... but it will take more time to heal the battle wounds from this Primary election.
One thing I took away from Hillary Clinton's speech last night was the notion to "keep moving forward". I'll take that advice and try to get over the lingering bitterness. It would be much easier to swallow if Obama would retire Hillary Clinton's debt. If he is raking in $50 million a month, it should be no problem and it'll go a long way.
I thought you didn't do political blogging? But I agree with you 100%. These people should be talking to the DNC leadership of Florida and Michigan instead of incessantly pleading to the media, as they were the ones who broke the rules. They might also want to talk to the Clinton campaign strategists who also contributed to Hillary's loss. I'm also ready for the media to move on and stop giving a platform to these folks. Hillary rocked the house last night, and it was an amazing, rousing and unifying speech. We aren't going to see the last of her. Four more years of crap? I don't think so.
Brett, I'm fairly sure that there is no legal way for Obama to just hand a pile of money over to Clinton to pay her debt. He's already asked his supporters to help her do so. At this point in the election cycle he is focusing on winning the White House and I would prefer that all of his efforts are directed toward that.
Hillary has to get her troops in line because if Obama loses it will be her that gets the blame, not them.
Homer's correct - about the most that Obama could do *from his campaign fund* is to make the maximum legal donation that one fund can make to the other - if anything. That's a couple of grand at most.
It's very possible that every one of the "big donors" in the Democratic party has already given the maximum allowable under the law to Clinton. Remember that limits are per election cycle - John Doe can give $2,300 to Clinton for the primary season, period. Anything more than that is illegal, period. So if Clinton spent more than she possibly could raise in big contributions, she could be stuck trying to raise money the hard way - $25 or so at a time - for a long time to come.
There probably ARE some more folks she can tap - but assuming she needs $20million+ and each person can only contribute $2,300, she'd need to tap nearly 9,000 people willing to give her the maximum, who haven't already given her anything. Have you sent her that much, in total, Brett?
Or she could just accept that this campaign cost her most of what she made on her book deal and miscellaneous things like, oh, cattle futures trading, and move on. Between her and the former Unzipped-in-Chief, they've made roughly $100 million in the last seven years; they may have deserved it, but they can afford to pay it off themselves if they have to.
A-fucking-men.
Amen brother! Honestly, all this crap is driving me crazy. What I'm really hoping for is to lapse into a coma and awaken in time to cast my vote on November 4. Depending on the election results, I may want my coma to continue.
To Kevin M., I wonder if there's a way she can side-step the maximum donation law. Since she's technically no longer a candidate for President, does the law still apply? She simply has debt, like any other consumer. Just a thought...
And Jimbo, I agree wholeheartedly. As my friend Corey said the other day, "I think a black woman who CHOOSES not to vote b/c Hillary isn't the nominee is an IDIOT who just shot her cause in the ass." He was, of course, referring to Anne Price-Mills. But the sentiment extends to the other rabid Hillary fans.
Voting for McCain just is not an option. Particularly for the LGBT crowd.
Stephen:
No, she can't sidestep the campaign limits; the limit is placed on donations to her campaign fund, and even dropping out, she still has to raise money for it in accordance with the FEC rules.
In a technical sense, she can't even contribute her own money to pay it off - though she can, if she wants, simply not collect the debt her campaign owes to her personally. In that instance, I believe she would have to continue to carry the debt on the campaign books forever until it was paid off by other means, and file periodic statements with the FEC as to what the campaign has collected/owes/etc.
I had to share this on my Facebook page because some people just can't get over her losing and it's driving me up the wall... I'm a Hillary supporter, but, she lost, so, my vote goes to Obama instead of to the old man. Obama's views are much closer to Hillary's views than the alternative!
In response to all the comments on here and everywhere else... Why is it Obama's responsibility to pay Hillary's debt? They both raised money like crazy, they both spent money like crazy. She spent more than she raised because of poor planning on her team's part, so, she'll have to pay back her loans on her own like we all do when we swipe that little magnetic strip!
Jimbo- Well said. Thank you.
They're called suicide voters.
