OMG Stevie Nicks feat. Prince on "Stand Back"
Now I understand why I like Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back" so much - because Prince had a hand in it. "Stand Back" is the love child of "Little Red Corvette." From the track notes on the 'Crystal Visions' CD:
"I had just gotten married and was driving with my husband to the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara for our honeymoon. We were both big Prince fans and "Little Red Corvette" came on the radio. I started humming "Stand Back" along to "Little Red Corvette" The entire song just wrote itself right then and there...I got Prince's number and called to tell him I had written a song to the melody of his song. I never expected to get him, but he answered! He came down and played keyboards on the song that night. Then he just got up and left as if the whole thing happened in a dream."Prince's musical influence is far-reaching and powerful indeed.

Yeah, it's like a soundtrack for a lesbian coffee shop that serves as teen roller rink by day, but that's me.

Hmm, sorta goes with Teva's, eh?
I love the whole "oh, I just rang Prince up" vibe she's serving. Hot!
Oddly enough, the soundtrack's me, also.
Listen, betch, after I stomp on your ass there's gonna be Teva-tracks up and down your bony ass.
The LONG version of Funkytown??? Oh, Jimbo...
so where's the mashup?
Kate Bush and Pure Prairie League? I think I love you Jimbo!!
What? You have nothing from the "Xanadu" soundtrack? I'm shocked!
I think Madonna's "Jump" is one of the best songs Madge has released in years.
I actually love your track lineup. Wanna double skate?
Oh Jimbo, you dear youngster... The Stevie/Prince story warmed my heart way back in the '80s when "Stand Back" was a top ten hit. I kept telling people "That's Prince on keyboards!" Few were as excited about it as I was, though.
How about this odd purple tidbit--did you ever realize that the melody of The Bangles song "Manic Monday," (which Prince wrote when he was dating the group's lead vocalist Susannah Hoffs) is identical to the vocal melody of the song"1999"? How's that for useless yet delightful info?
After all the excitement from last week...no Big Pig?
"Aimee"!! Yay! Glad I ain't the only one! I saw them in concert about 20 or so years ago in NYC. Glad I did.
As for Prince, the Loft Theatre here in TooStoned (the one that presents the Buffy Sing-a-Long) also has done a Purple Rain Sing-a-Long a few times.
